Block Parties

Bring Your Block Together

Want to feel more connected to the people living just a few doors away? Host a block party!

Block parties don’t need to be elaborate. A few tables, shared food, sidewalk chalk, music, and an open invitation can turn an ordinary afternoon into something neighbors look forward to every year.

Why Host a Block Party?

A block party is a simple way to:

  • Meet the neighbors you usually only wave to.
  • Help new residents feel welcome.
  • Give kids and families an easy way to connect.
  • Build relationships before anyone needs a favor or a helping hand.
  • Share local information, ideas, and resources.
  • Make your block feel safer, friendlier, and more connected.
  • Have some fun close to home!

The strongest neighborhood connections often begin at the smallest level—one block, one conversation, and one shared table at a time.

Start With Your Block

Need help reaching everyone? Visit the Westmorland Member Directory to find available phone numbers and email addresses for neighbors on your block. Use that information to introduce yourself, invite others into the planning, and find a few people willing to help.

A block party is much easier, and more fun, when several neighbors share the work.

Please use directory information respectfully and only for appropriate neighborhood communication.

Use Our Block Party Checklist

We’ve created a practical checklist based on experience organizing a Westmorland block party. It covers the major details, including early planning, neighbor outreach, food, activities, setup, cleanup, and other helpful considerations.

Consider it a starting point, not a rulebook. Every block is different, so keep what is helpful, adapt it to your neighbors, and make the gathering your own.

Ready to Get Started?

Reach out to a few neighbors, choose a date, and begin with something simple. You don’t need to create a perfect event, you just need to create an opportunity for people to show up.

Your next great neighborhood tradition may be waiting right outside your front door.
